 Some things I think every FastAPI route should be checked for:

System Design and Security in Transaction Software

<div class="md">When Apple first released its Foundation Models framework, my friend and I were excited about the possibilities of an on-device LLM. We wanted to create a trivia game and thought that might be a great application of the technology. Well, we were quickly disabused of the notion, what with its rampant hallucination and apparently small body of knowledge. But, even if the model performed better, we also soon realized that such an architecture would not work for a game—which required all players to see the same questions, ensure that questions weren&#39;t repeated, etc. Essentially, we needed a full stack. I had built app back ends previously using PHP running on EC2, and there&#39;s nothing wrong with that classic LAMP stack. But for this project, I wanted to embrace a design similar to the ones I had used in my day job as an enterprise software engineer, and that&#39;s what lead me to FastAPI running on AWS Lambda. I really enjoyed embracing the separation of concerns that FastAPI embodies: schemas for the interface, routers for the REST API route definitions, crud for the business logic and DB queries, models for the SQLalchemy ORM. Throw in Alembic for DB versioning, pytest for unit testing, and Serverless for IaC, and you have a pretty robust back end. We ended up using OpenAI&#39;s gpt-5-nano model, a very cost effective and reasonably performant LLM for our trivia question generation. The back end will eventually support multiple flavors of our trivia game, but the first is a daily news variant that we just launched on the <a href="https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ai-news-quiz-the-trivia-daily/id6759505613">App Store</a>. Great learning experience building a FastAPI back end for my new iOS game

 I’m working on a mini Vercel-like deployment platform as a student project and would love some guidance.
 What I’m building (high level):
  
A frontend where users upload a project (or repo)
 FastAPI backend acts as a thin orchestrator (basically just receives config + triggers builds)
 Cloud provider handles Docker build, pushes image, and deploys
 The goal is to trigger a cloud build → create a Docker image → deploy → stream logs back to the UI
  
I’ve attached a diagram for the current architecture.
 Current approach:
  
Backend receives configs from frontend
 It forwards those to a cloud service (Azure initially) to handle Docker build + deploy
 Backend just tracks status + streams logs (kind of like a control plane)
  
Where I’m stuck:
  
What’s the best way to handle Docker builds without running them on my backend?
 ACR seems good but not really “free” for a student
 Should I: 
 Stick with Azure (ACR Tasks)?
 Switch to something like GitHub Actions + GHCR?
 Or self-host builds somehow?
 
  
Also wondering:
  
Should I require users to provide a Dockerfile?
 Or generate one dynamically like Vercel does?
  
This is just a prototype (no auth yet), so I’m trying to keep things simple but still scalable in design.

Django devs, what's your actual go-to frontend stack right now? (HTMX/Alpine, React, Vue, plain templates, or hybrid?)

<div class="md">Hey, I&#39;m Kasey. I&#39;ve been building Django apps for a while and Celery comes up constantly. At some point I noticed there aren&#39;t many good options for dedicated Celery monitoring. <a href="http://Healthchecks.io">Healthchecks.io</a> exists for cron jobs, there are plenty of options for HTTP endpoints, but for Celery you&#39;re either living with Flower or piecing something together yourself. CeleryRadar is a managed service, no infrastructure to run on your end. Install the SDK, call <code>connect()</code> in your celery.py with your API key and app name, and it starts tracking tasks, workers, beat schedules, and queue depth. The SDK is open source so you can see exactly what&#39;s being hooked into your workers before installing anything. It hooks into Celery&#39;s signals directly and works with any broker for task tracking. Queue depth is Redis-only for now. The backend isn&#39;t open source yet but I&#39;m planning to open source it down the line for self-hosting. On the task side you get a full event log with filtering and search, per-task failure and retry rates, and a retry chain view that puts every attempt for a given task on one timeline. Click into any failed task and you get the full picture, args, kwargs, exception, traceback, which worker picked it up, and timestamps for every step. Args, exception, and traceback capture can all be disabled via SDK parameters if you&#39;d rather not send them. Beat schedule monitoring is the thing I spent the most time on. For larger apps: - Flask-WTF works well - Marshmallow / Pydantic make sense for APIs But a lot of the apps I see don’t really fit either model. They’re smaller apps or internal tools with simple UIs. In those cases I usually find: - validation scattered across routes - inconsistent handling - or nothing enforced at all One thing that’s been particularly difficult is answering: “How do we know which endpoints are actually validating input?” So I put together a small decorator-based approach to make validation explicit and consistent, and added a way to audit routes to find ones that aren’t using validation.  I built a small e-commerce website as my CS50 final project using Flask. It’s for a local clothing brand, so I’m expecting relatively small traffic at the beginning.
 Right now I’m considering Railway’s Hobby plan ($5/month), but I’m not sure if it’ll be enough long term even for light traffic.
 My main requirements are: - Persistent storage for the SQLite database - Custom domain support - Decent reliability for a small production app
 Current stack: - Flask - SQLite - Gunicorn - Basic admin dashboard - Product images/uploads - Cloudinary free plan for image hosting
 So the server itself mainly handles the app/database while images are offloaded to Cloudinary.
 Do you think Railway is a good choice for this use case? Or are there better/cheaper alternatives you’d recommend for a beginner project like this?
 Would also appreciate hearing real experiences with Railway in production for small Flask apps.

That felt like way too much setup for the amount of state I actually needed. So I made a small flask app called Intent-Bus that uses sqlite underneath. It handles basic job queueing and also has a simple key-value store for sharing state between scripts. I know sqlite gets a lot of side-eye when concurrency comes up, but for my use case it has been surprisingly solid. Having everything live in one file also makes backups and migration pretty painless. It is definitely not meant for huge scale, but for a few devices and some background scripts, it feels like a good fit. What i am mostly wondering is where this kind of setup usually starts to hit its limit in practice. If you have used sqlite as a queue or coordination layer for low-to-medium traffic, what was the first thing that broke for you? I have a contact form on my website I am hosting with flask and added a honeypot field that apparently is not sophisticated enough to, at the very minimum, flag the bot traffic I get. Sometimes messages get flagged as illegitimate, but those are few and far inbetween.

How do you filter bots out of the contact form of your website?
