 I'm currently in the middle of a framework debate for a new project at work. We love FastAPI, but the "Bus Factor" (the project being heavily tied to a single maintainer) is the #1 point of pushback from our senior architects.
 For those of you running FastAPI in enterprise/production environments:
  
Was the governance model a dealbreaker for your team? If so, how did you get past it?
 Do you view the "Bus Factor" as a real risk in 2025, or do you feel the underlying stability of Starlette/Pydantic makes it a non-issue?
 Did anyone choose Litestar specifically because of its community-governed model? Any regrets or "grass is greener" moments?
  
I'm less interested in the technical features and more in the institutional trust side. How do you justify building a long-term company asset on a project that still feels very centralized?

Open-source FastAPI full-stack template for AI/LLM apps – now with LangChain support alongside PydanticAI!

I’m now considering alternatives like fastapi-users, but I’m unsure about the best architecture for handling auth, permissions, and org-based roles.
 My concern is that I do not know if it is a good practice to :
  
Keep this Azure SWA that can restrict me again in the future (payment, auth, dashboard with user data)
 Have a full back-end auth system
  
Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

 I'm running a simple database query, to retrieve some "author" records, that I then pass through to a template. Given an ID value, I'm joining two tables, in classes Author and Pseudonyms, that (I think) are properly declared. The function looks like:
 def get_authors(author_id): authors = Author.query.\ filter(Pseudonyms.author_id == Author.author_id).\ filter(Pseudonyms.pseudonym == author_id) return authors 
 I have a number of queries that look pretty much like this, and they all work fine. However, when I run this, I get the error TypeError: expected string or bytes-like object, got 'type', with the stacktrace showing the second "filter" line in the above query as the most-immediate error line. When I go into the console debugger, it tells me that "author_id" is an int; the "Pseudonyms.pseudonym" is identified as <sqlalchemy.sql.elements.ColumnClause at 0x7fcb82deab10; <class 'sqlalchemy.sql.sqltypes.Integer'>>.
 This seems like a simple enough query to me, yet I can't even find any examples of this exact error online—all the TypeError's I see identify what kind of type, but this doesn't say—making it hard to know what I'm doing wrong.

At some point, we notice something strange: half of the signals work perfectly, while the other half… simply are not triggered. No errors in Sentry. No 500s. Logs are clean. The code is in place. But the logic is never executed. We started the usual debugging dance. We discovered that moving imports inside the signal handler functions (local imports) magically makes everything work. Our first thought was: &quot;Classic circular imports.&quot; We fixed the symptoms, but the uneasy feeling remained. Why didn’t Django crash with an <code>ImportError</code> or <code>AppRegistryNotReady</code>? It usually does when circular imports occur during startup. The Breakdown: We looked into <a href="http://apps.py"><code>apps.py</code></a> and found the culprit. Someone had previously encountered an import error and decided to wrap the signal registration in a <code>try...except...pass</code> block in ALL our apps. When a new feature introduced a real circular import, the app didn&#39;t crash. It just caught the error, silently skipped registering the signals, and went on with its life. Let it crash. In my current project I had to deploy our FE application using Django and whitenoise where the build files are being served by whitenoise. While playing, it hit me how inefficient the whole thing was and how much better it would be as a virtual game. I thought it could actually be fun to build. I figured Django would work, even though I didn’t really know my way around Django Channels. Coincidentally, we had a departmental game night coming up, so I decided to go for it and build a digital version of the game. I ended up vibecoding it using Google’s antigravity, and after several rounds of testing and refining, it worked surprisingly well Now everyone thinks I really know my stuff. I won’t lie, I didn’t turn down the praise, especially since it could lead to gigs. At the same time, I started feeling some imposter syndrome because I didn’t build everything completely on my own. It just feels… odd. What makes it even stranger is that I only recently installed antigravity on my PC, and this is just the second site I’ve vibecoded. It’s starting to mess with my head a bit, because it makes me wonder whether there’s even a need to keep learning how to code deeply anymore. Not sure how to feel about it.
